Religious Emblems

To encourage members to grow stronger in their faith, many religious groups have programs for young people to earn a religious emblem. The Boy Scouts of America approves of these programs and allows the religious emblems to be worn on the official uniform.

Totin’ Chip

 

This certification grants a Scout the right to carry and use woods tools. There is a wallet card and patch available.

Paul Bunyan Woodsman

 

A Scout that has earned his Totin’ Chip can demonstrate advanced woodsman skills by teaching Totin’ Chip skills to other scouts and completing a woodsman work project.

National Outdoor Badges

 

The National Outdoor Badge recognizes Boy Scouts/Varsity Scouts who have exemplary knowledge and experience in performing high-level outdoor activities. The award consists of five areas of emphasis (Riding, Hiking, Camping, Aquatics, and Adventure) with rigorous requirements to earn each segment.

The National Medal for Outdoor Achievement is the highest recognition that a Boy Scout or Varsity Scout can earn for exemplary achievement, experience, and skill in multiple areas of outdoor endeavor.

Historic Trails Award

 

Love of America and devotion to our country depend upon a thorough appreciation of the ideals, principles, and traditions that have made our country strong. Historic Trails Award requirements emphasize cooperation between historic societies and Boy Scout, Varsity Scout, and Venturing units.

50-Miler Award

Leave No Trace Awareness Award

 

Instilling values in young people and preparing them to make ethical choices throughout their lifetime is the mission of the Boy Scouts of America. Leave No Trace helps reinforce that mission, and reminds us to respect the rights of other users of the outdoors as well as future generations. The Leave No Trace Awareness Award is awarded to Scouts and leaders.

Emergency Preparedness BSA Award

BSA Lifeguard Award

 

A three-year training designation awarded to Boy Scouts, Venturers, and adults who meet prescribed requirements in aquatics skills, Safe Swim Defense, Safety Afloat, first aid, and emergency action.

Mile Swim BSA

 

The Mile Swim BSA Award is offered by many Boy Scout Summer Camps as a part of their aquatics program. The patch is not worn on the uniform. It is an aquatic insignia and can be worn on swim trunks. It can also be worn on a jacket or patch vest or placed on blankets, backpacks, or other personal equipment.

Mastery of Kayaking BSA skills is a first critical step towards satisfying Safety Afloat guidelines for safe kayak excursions.

Boardsailing BSA

 

The BSA Boardsailing award has been developed to introduce Scouts to basic boardsailing skills, equipment, and safety precautions; to encourage the development of skills that promote fitness and safe aquatic recreation; and to lay a skill and knowledge foundation for those who will later participate in more advanced and demanding activities on the water. Boardsailing BSA is well suited as a program feature for older Scouts at summer camp.
