Jones promoted to Field Director
(posted 5-10-08)
May 1, 2008-Dwayne Jones was officially named Council Field Director of the Evangeline Area Council and will now look to serve the entire 8 parish council territory through his guidance of five dedicated unit serving executives. Jones leaves behind the post of District Director, where he provided direct leadership to the Beau Bassin District (Lafayette/St. Martin Parishes) and indirectly supervised Acadia and Vermilion districts. Dwayne began his career as a District Executive in the Chitimacha District (St. Mary Parish) and was then promoted to serve Beau Bassin District until now. The Council FieldDirector position is still a unit serving position but is somewhat equivalent to an operations manager position. Jones will work with the field staff to ensure quality programming and adequate unit service. His focus has always been on the scouts and their families and in this new role his attention will remain on making sure that the Scouting experience is a fun and exciting one for all involved. Mark Riley Accepts Council Commissioner Responsibility(posted 5-10-08) The Evangeline Area Council, BSA is excited to announce Mark Riley has accepted the second highest volunteer position in the Council leadership structure. Riley will take over as Council Commissioner for Keith LeJeune, effective immediately. LeJeune served the position for two years and led the Council Commissioner Cabinet to a growth in active unit commissioners, and helped in the formation of a strategic plan for our district commissioner staffs. Mark Riley has a vast knowledge of scouting and its structure as he as served as a Cubmaster, Charter Organization Representative, and Council Vice President of Membership, among other posts. Mark is excited about the opportunity to serve and help this generation of scout units better serve the youth of our area. For more information on what Commissioners do and how you can be a part of this dynamic staff, please refer to the Commissioner Service tab also on this web site.2008 Popcorn Campaign only 144 days away!!!(posted 5-10-08) It is simply amazing that this year of 2008 as flown by so quickly. But just for a second, think about the fact that the annual popcorn campaign is only 144 days away from kicking off! There are going to be a lot of exciting things happening this year. We are introducing Unit Popcorn Kit Boxes constructed to give unit leaders all the necessary tools to fire up their families and prize treasure chests filled to the brim with cool items that scouts can win if they fill up one full order form. We will also be hosting district kickoffs in the month of August in order to give units a opportunity to schedule “popcorn only” kickoffs in the month of September. What is a popcorn only kickoff, might you ask? Well we’ve found that the excitement is just not the same when popcorn is thrown into a pack meeting as an after thought. We are going to raise the stakes by offering more commission for units that host a popcorn only kickoff in the month of September.Lastly, we are in search of a council wide theme for popcorn in 2008 and from this point forward. We want to tie our efforts to one central rallying cry in hopes that Scouts and Scout families all over our Council will get excited and sell popcorn! Details about this year’s campaign are developing, and we’ll keep you posted! 2nd year Webelos-Are YOU going to summer camp?(posted 5-10-08) If you are a second year webelos or the parent of a webelos II and you haven’t yet given Boy Scouts a try, then you’re missing out! Some of these activities include hiking, fishing, canoeing, backpacking, white water rafting, swimming, rifle and shotgun shooting, climbing, rapelling and so much more!
