I hope everyone had a happy and safe New Year’s Eve. I want to welcome you all to a new scouting year. 2008 should be a very prosperous and exciting year for the district. We will be holding our Annual Awards Banquet on January 21st at the Patterson Knights of Columbus home at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are available for $10.00 per person in advance, or $12.00 at the door. We will be recognizing our leaders for all of their hard work, acknowledging our recent Eagle Scouts, and having a wonderful dinner together in fellowship. If you need tickets, please contact Keith Bass, Sue Williams or I, and we will make sure you get the tickets you need. Wood Badge for the 21st Century is being held February 28, 29 and March 1st, AND March 27, 28 and 29th. The course is a full 6 days, half held at Camp Edgewood (Calcasieu Area Council) and the other at Mt. Bayou Lake. Registration is open until January 18th. You will need to pay the Calcasieu Area Council to reserve your place. The application is available online at www.eacbsa.org. University of Scouting is January 19th at Northside High School in Lafayette. UofS is a very interesting and informative event. Classes offered for Cub Scouters, Boy Scouters, Commissioner Sciences and General Studies. Degree programs are offered as well. These classes are designed to help you bring scouting to our youth. Registration fee is $20 which will include lunch. Come and join in on the fun and learning of scouting. We are still in need of a few district positions to fill our committee. Currently, we need a Membership Chairman, Round-Up Team leader, New Unit Organizer, WEBELOS Transition coordinator, Exploring Chairman, Public Relations officer, Assistant Commissioner and a few unit commissioners. If you, or someone in your unit, are interested in learning more about these positions and duties, I will be happy to explain them to you. These positions are needed to further enable our district to grow and prosper. Scout Week is coming up February 3rd thru 9th. February 3rd is Scout Sunday, in which scouts are asked to wear your uniforms to your religious services. The Scout Parade and push mobile race is being held on the 9th of February at the Franklin Court House. Details on the parade route will be available soon. Cub Day Camp dates has changed for this year to the first week of June. Also, we talked during the last few roundtables about doing a Twilight camp. A survey will soon be sent to all Cub Masters. Please distribute these to your cub parents so that we can get an accurate idea on what everyone wants to do. The next roundtable will be February 12th. The changes is only because the Tuesday before is Mardi Gras. We will meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Berwick Jr. High Library. Thank you all for your continued support in scouting. Craig Overland Chitimacha District Executive Chitimacha District Banquet![]() Congratulations to all that recieved awards at our District Banquet held January 21, 2008 at the Patterson Knights of Colombus Home. Chitimacha District Award recipients were Kerry and Jeanne McCloy, Den Leaders Pack 330; Lynn Richard, Cubmaster Pack 12; Kevin Arceneaux, Webelos Leader Pack 336; and Tracy and Eric Boudreaux, Cubmaster and Webelos Den leader Pack 339. In a special ceremony, Richard Guidry recieved his Eagle Scout pin, also, 2007 Eagles Dustin Stevens, Derik Stevens and Paul Arceneaux were recognized. Craig Overland was presented with the Wood Badge regalia during a first ever Wood Badge Ceremony at the Banquet given by Darrel Combs, Scoutmaster of the 2006 Wood Badge Course. The big event however, was the awarding of District Award of Merit to Catherine David. The Award was presented by Evangeline Area Council Executive Jim Rees and Executive Board Member Jackie Cefalu David. Mrs. David is a Webelos den leader from Pack 330, who has volunteered her time for the last five years to scouting, she participates in Cub Leader Trainings, and has volunteered to work numerous Day Camps and Cub Adventures throughout her years in scouting. We are all very proud of her hard work and dedication to the movement, and look forward to working with her for a loing time to come. Bear Division; first, Mikey Martin; second, Joshua Fabre and third, Jessie Fontenot. Webelos Division; first, Dylan Bryant; second, Johnathon Olivier and third, Noah Richard. The results are posted below, as you will see, the times were very competitive. We hope to see you all back next year for another exciting racing season.
