Chitimacha District November Newsletter

Another year has passed for the Chitimacha District. I hope that you all had as much fun as I did. 2009 promises to be yet another great year for the scouts in our district.

Coming soon is the Annual District Leader Recognition Banquet January 19th, at 6:00 PM at the KC Home in Patterson. ALL leaders, involved volunteers, Charter Reps, and anyone else who would like to come out and see our Leaders recognized for their achievement, are welcome to attend. There is a $10 per person fee, this will help to pay for the food and supplies.

University of Scouting is being conducted January 17th at New Iberia High School this year. The class information is available on the main page of the council website. This is a great opportunity to learn about scouting in your particular area of interest. Subjects from Pack finances, and Razzle Dazzle to Backpack Cooking and knot tying will be offered. Cub Scout, Boy Scout, Commissioner Services, and General Interest subjects will be covered. So come out, enjoy some fellowship and gain a bit of scouting knowledge. Also, this will help you with your Training Knot requirements for next year!

The Annual Scout Parade and Pushmobile race will be held in Morgan City this year. February 7th, the parade will start at the Tampico’s Parking Lot in M.C. and will travel down Victor II Blvd. to the M.C. Recreation Center Swimming Pool parking lot. The Races will commence thereafter. Concessions will be sold as well. So tune up your carts or build or barrow one, and get ready to race! (Remember, helmets and seat belts must be worn by all race participants.)

Many more things to come for 2009, look below at the District Calendar and be sure that you and your unit don’t miss out.

The Spirit of Morgan City shrimp boat monument on Brashear Avenue in Morgan City is being spruced up by Eagle Scout candidate Eric Verret and friends. The Eagle project kept Verret and his support staff busy all weekend. By Sunday afternoon, when this photograph was snapped, a great majority of the painting had been completed. Verret, second from left, said he was getting help from his parents, Jude and Kat Verret, and Kayla Leonard, Alex Moye, Braden Manuel, Ray Lahoste, Frankie Marcrum, Bobby Cline, Ethan Cline and Daniel Verret. The monument stands as a reminder to the past dominance of the shrimping industry in Morgan City, once known as the Jumbo Shrimp Capital of the World. (Photo courtesy The Daily Review)
