Message from the D.E

Greetings, Scouters. Well, April has come and gone, and we’re gearing up for summer. Cub Day Camp for the cubs and Summer Camp for the Boy Scouts are both coming up in June. I was pleased to see the turn out at Camporee on April 5th, and I hope that everyone who attended had a great time, I know that I did running the climbing tower, though I learned that I might be getting old, as my back was killing me the next day! Our District Banquet also occurred on April 15th, and we had a great turn-out. I would like to congratulate Judy McCrory for being the District Award of Merit recipient for 2008! For those not in the know about the award, here’s what the National Council has to say:
“The District Award of Merit is a council award presented by districts in the same manner that the Silver Beaver is a national award presented by councils. The award is available to Scouters who render service of an outstanding nature at the district level. The award is made available annually on the basis of 1 for each 25 traditional units or fraction thereof. The district need not present all the awards to which it is entitled each year. It is not appropriate to nominate a Scouter who has already received this award. A professional Scouter or other council employee may not receive this award based on employment service. However, a professional Scouter or employee who also serves as a volunteer Scouter may be eligible, based on volunteer service.”
More information can be gained at http://www.scouting.org/filestore/pdf/33720.pdf, to nominate a candidate for next year! I would also like to congratulate everyone who received awards last night, and hope that everyone is preparing to advance more next year. Thanks also to the District Banquet Committee for all that they did for this fantastic event.
In District news, we are doing well in our annual Friends of Scouting Campaign, and are hoping to be at 100% soon. Anyone interested in donating to our campaign can contact me. Don’t forget to register for the upcoming camps, which can be found at the main page of the EAC website.
As always, everyone is doing a terrific job, and if there is ANYTHING that I can do for you, don’t hesitate to call me, email me, come by my house, or send up smoke signals! As Baden Powell said, “Good Scouting!”
