Message From the National Chief Scout Executive
Bringing Things to a Fever PitchLook over your shoulder. 2009 is about to
melt away and we are just over a month from our centennial year. I am really
pumped – are you?
To jump start the celebration, we’re doing something that we haven’t done in
the great history of this organization. We’re holding a national rally to
kick-off this momentous occasion. One of our foremost promises through the new
BSA is to communicate better with our local council, national staff and our
hard-working volunteers. It is important that you feel informed of, invested
in, and excited about the direction that Scouting is taking.
The big event will happen on Thursday, December 10, 2009 from 7:00 – 7:20 p.m.
CST. I will be joined by AT&T Chairman, CEO and President Randall
Stephenson, our 100th Anniversary Chairman; BSA National President, John
Gottschalk; and BSA National Commissioner, Tico Perez.
Getting ever more tech-savvy, thanks to Randall Stephenson’s leadership and the
wonderful support of AT&T, the rally will be held as a live audiocast. Our
goal is very simple: to create a sense of energy and excitement around the
100th Anniversary so that local councils can harness that enthusiasm to drive
their engagement plans. We want to create buzz. We want folks thinking about
and dreaming about this once-in-a-lifetime milestone.
In addition to sharing our own personal excitement, we’ll be sharing some
important information about the celebration plans and answering some questions
from participants. If you have any right off the bat, let me know! I’d really
value your feedback.
We want to gather a quarter of a million volunteers, staff members, Scouting
alums, and parents across
Please join us as we embark upon this once-in-a-lifetime journey and begin our
next century of service. We’re going to make Scouting history!
Thanks, Bob

impact on the lives of youth through service given to the council. This prestigious award is given to those who
implement the Scouting program and perform community service through hard work,
self sacrifice, dedication, and many years of service. It is given to those who
do not actively seek it. The Evangeline Area, typically, is allowed to
recognize three to four individuals each year.

The Evangeline Area Council is very proud of its 2008-2009 Eagle class.
The Council honored this year’s crop of Eagles on August 6, 2009; the class
was treated to a moving speech by former Governor Buddy Roemer. Eagle Scout is the highest rank attainable
in the Boy Scouting program of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Those who
attain this rank are called an Eagle Scout or Eagle. Since its
introduction in 1911, the Eagle Scout rank has been earned by more than 2
million young men. The title of Eagle
Scout is held for life, thus giving rise to the phrase "Once an Eagle,
always an Eagle".
Requirements
include earning at least 21 merit badges and demonstrating Scout Spirit,
service, and leadership. This includes an extensive service project that the Scout
plans, organizes, leads, and manages. Eagle Scouts are presented with a medal
and a badge that visibly recognizes the accomplishments of the Scout.
Additional recognition can be earned through Eagle Palms, awarded for
completing additional tenure, leadership, and merit badge requirements.

enough to host a Scout Night that will include pre/post game activities, the
game itself and a bunch of fun. More
details will be circulating in the coming weeks. We hope you choose to be in the thousands
that renew their support for the Icegators and take a Chomp out of the February 20, 2009 opponent.
Ticket prices, seating arrangements, order deadlines, etc. will be
announced in the very near future.
