Message From the National Chief Scout Executive
It is always fun to read
about how Scouting units across the country are celebrating our 100th
Anniversary in their own special ways. But for one unit in
Boy Scouts celebrate 100-year anniversary despite windstorm complications

Hamilton-Wenham - In February, Cub Scout Packs across the
United States celebrated the anniversary of Boy Scouting with a special family
dinner called the Blue and Gold Banquet. This year marks the 100th anniversary of
Boy Scouting.
The boys of Pack 28 and their families had plans for a campfire themed dinner
to be held at the
Since many families were without power and phones, Webelos
leader Adam Caccivio drove to many of the Cub Scout’s
homes with the news of the location change and others received word by cell
phone.
Power was restored to the church by the time dinner started at 6:30 p.m. Many
families were happy to have a hot meal and reprieve from their still dark
homes.
In keeping with tradition, the oldest Scout, Arthur Doggett served the first
piece of the Scout’s “birthday cake” to the youngest Cub Scout, Jacob Beckwith.
During a campfire themed ceremony the fifth grade Cub Scouts were welcomed into
Boy Scout Troop 28. These boys were Parker Addis, Bradley Caccivio,
Nick Colucci, Jeffery Davis, Arthur Doggett, Seth Holling and Colin Remsen.
This Blue and Gold Dinner shows that the cub scouts of Pack 28 live the Cub
Scout motto “Do your best” as they found a way to have a great dinner and
celebration despite the unusual circumstances.
It’s great to see the “never say die” spirit that makes these Scouting events
so inspiring and successful. What a great message it sends to kids about how
Scouting helps all of us overcome whatever challenges we face when trying to
accomplish something, and do it well.
Congratulations to Pack 28 of the Pine Tree Council for making its 100th
Anniversary Celebration such a great experience for all involved. If you have
similar stories about overcoming hurdles to make the 100th Anniversary
Celebration special for your units, please share them here.
Thanks, Bob

By now, many if not all of
you have heard that I have accepted an opportunity to work for the Sam Houston
Area Boy Scouts of America. This decision was one that I see simply as “bittersweet”.
I am extremely excited about the opportunity to utilize the skills and
knowledge that so many of you have helped me develop over the past 8 years but
I am also extremely saddened by the prospect of leaving behind my Scouting
home. A lot can change in 8 years and that is certainly the case as it
pertains to the growth in my life. My career started in Chitimacha
District and together the volunteers there made strides that brought the
district to levels of accomplishment that we all could be proud of. From
there the move to the Beau Bassin District was great
for my family and I. There I was presented with
the opportunity to work with a new set of wonderful volunteers. During that
time, I worked alongside of a new set of awesome and dedicated parents and
scouts. As the council Field Director, I also spent time as interim
executive in Attakapas and
