Invest in Scouting
Growing up has never been easy. Each generation faces its own concerns and pressures. For the past 100 years, the Boy Scouts of America has provided young people with experiences that prepare them to meet challenges and conquer them.

Character, self-reliance, responsibility and leadership - Scouting provides activities that are in sync with the interests of today's youth, but instill these timeless values. Annually, for more than 40,000 Acadiana participants with diverse backgrounds, Scouting is the guiding light that leads to a responsible and rewarding adulthood.

Friends of Scouting is the annual fundraising campaign to raise the operating funds necessary to provide a quality Scouting program in the Acadiana communities. This campaign is divided into two separate efforts: The Family Friends of Scouting, which solicits contributions from the Scouting families and the Community Friends of Scouting which seeks contributions from business and community leaders as well as Council Board members.

Every year there is a need for financial support to continue the existing programs while expanding and brining its values based character education program to more youth.

This is the essence of the Family Friends of Scouting campaign, is raising money to help the Evangeline Area Council defray the actual cost of delivering and running the Scouting program. Special events and fundraisers pay only a portion of the cost. Give Scouts and volunteer Scouters your support by helping the Scouting program with your pledge.

Only through your support can we keep the Scouting light burning brightly into the future. Why should you support Scouting? Because your gift to the 2009 Friends of Scouting campaign really does keep the light burning. Help us guide the youth of this generation as they grow to become the leaders of the next.

If you have any questions regarding Friends of Scouting, please contact Art Hawkins, Scout Executive at (337) 235-8551, extension 105 or art.hawkins@scouting.org.

United Way of Acadiana
The Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America has enjoyed a longstanding affiliated partnership with the United Way of Acadiana. Together we have brought Scouting's values, leadership and character development to the youth of our community. We were saddened and stunned to learn that the United Way of Acadiana would not be allocating any funds to our local Scouting programs in 2009. This action has left Evangeline Area Council with a projected shortfall of $90,000.

We support the United Way in their right, as a private organization, to determine the manner in which they allocate funds and agree that the three core issues selected to be funded are important. We do however, believe that the programs offered by the Boy Scouts of America exceed the desired outcomes in each of the three areas and has and continues to provide the foundation within the community for which new and innovative programs can be added.

Scouting needs your help! As we approach our 100th anniversary, your support of the Evangeline Area Council, Boy Scouts of America will provide the critical resources needed to bring our programs to more of our community's youth. Please consider supporting one Scout ($125), Two Scouts ($250), a Den or Patrol ($1,000), a Pack, Troop or Crew ($5,000) or more. Your thoughtful consideration is greatly appreciated.
